Balawant Joshi


Balawant is one of the founding directors of Idam Infra. He has more than 22 years of progressive experience in energy, utilities, and infrastructure sectors in India that extends from O&M (operation and maintenance) of power systems to financial modelling and valuation, from utility operations to consulting and from technology to regulatory aspects.

He is a well-known expert on policy/regulatory matters concerning electricity, renewable and energy efficiency industry. He has been extensively involved in the formulation and implementation of landmark National Policies relating to renewable energy such as Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Framework for Ministry of New and Renewable Energy/Forum of Regulators (MNRE/FOR), National Solar Mission Guidelines for Phase I and II, Renewable Energy Tariff Regulations for Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), etc. He is also involved in several key initiatives in energy efficiency areas such as Institutionalizing DSM in the Utility Sector and Conceptual framework for Perform, Achieve and Trade mechanism of BEE, National DSM Plan, etc. Currently, he is involved in conceptualization, design, development and implementation of Policy & Regulatory Framework for Rural Electrification through micro and mini-grids using Renewable Energy Resources”.

Balawant is a member of several committees set up by the Government and Industry on issues concerning development of the sector. He was a member of the sub-group on ´Grid Connected Renewable Energy´ set up for the preparation of 12th Five Year Plan and was also a member of the Task Force set up by CERC on issues related to integration of infirm power. He is also member of National Renewable Energy Committee and Climate Change Business Council of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Governing Council of Indian Wind Energy Association.

Apart from government and private sector in India, he has worked as a consultant with several multilateral, bilateral organizations such as World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNDP, GEF, REEEP, International Energy Agency, Swiss Development Agency, etc. and NGOs such as Climate Works Foundation, World Resources Institute, Greenpeace, Climate Parliament, etc. He regularly contributes articles on energy sector policy and regulation to journals such as Green Energy. He has also contributed a chapter in a book titled ´ Wind Power Development in India’ published by World Institute of Sustainable Energy.

Balawant holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Master’s degree in Financial Management, both from the University of Mumbai.

Ajit Pandit


Ajit is one of the founding directors of Idam Infra. He has more than 20 years of progressive experience in energy and utilities sectors in India. Mr. Ajit brings with him the regulatory perspective and is well versed with the risks and commercial arrangements associated with the development, construction, and implementation of various renewable energy generation schemes, transmission, evacuation, grid connectivity and distribution schemes.

Ajit is recognized by the industry as an expert in policy and regulatory matters concerning electricity industry, and in renewable energy sector in particular. He has assisted several utilities, renewable energy developers and state electricity regulatory commissions in addressing regulatory issues influencing the growth of renewable energy in India. He is familiar with various renewable energy technologies and regulatory and policy framework for harnessing the Renewable Energy sources.

He has assisted Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for the development of Conceptual Framework for Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) mechanism for India and also supported Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and Forum of Regulators (FOR) for development of Procedures and framework for implementation of REC mechanism in India. He has also assisted FOR in developing uniform Renewable Energy Policy framework across states. He has also assisted CERC for development of Norms and Regulations for renewable energy Feed-in Tariff determination which can act as guidelines for states across India. He is working on developing regulations for promoting off-grid renewable energy projects for FOR-CERC. He has worked extensively with multilateral agencies such as World Bank, Department for International Development (DFID), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and international NGOs/Associations such as REEEP, Climate Works Foundation on issues associated with power sector reforms and clean energy development initiatives across Indian States.

Ajit was invited as a member of task force established by the MNRE and CERC for grid integration of renewable energy projects and on resolving issues related to implementation of the Renewable Regulatory Fund (RRF). He was also member of the standing committee on transmission formed by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to review and formulate a long-term perspective plan for transmission system plans in Maharashtra.

He has written several theme papers and discussion papers and drafted policy and regulations to create enabling policy and regulatory frameworks. He has also acted as a knowledge partner, a faculty member, organized workshops, worked on documentation of case studies, renewable energy technology handbooks, proceedings, manuals, apart from project/program evaluation/implementation reports as well as organizing capacity building training programmes of various stakeholders both national as well as international in the field of renewable energy (grid and off-grid) and energy efficiency.

Ajit holds a Bachelor´s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute (VJTI) and a Master´s degree in Management Studies, both from the University of Mumbai.

Nilanjan Bose

Assistant General Manager

Nilanjan has more than 12 years of progressive experience in the field of energy efficiency (EE), energy conservation (EC), demand side management and renewable energy. He is a Certified Energy Manager in BEE.

He has expertise in technology assessment, project management, performance measurement and evaluation. He has an excellent record of client cost reduction across several corporate enterprises and was involved in the development of regulatory framework for institutionalising DSM in the utility sector in India. He has played a key advisory role in EE and EC areas for implementation of EE/EC related activities in the states under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.

Nilanjan holds Bachelor’s degree in Science and Master’s degree in Energy Management from the University of Calcutta. He is a Certified Energy Manager from BEE, Ministry of Power (MoP), Government of India (GoI).

Subhabrata Datta

Assistant General Manager

Subhabrata has an experience of over 20 years in the field of Geographical Information System (GIS) & Remote Sensing. He has expertise in Digital Mapping, Survey and GIS Applications.

His professional experience domain involves Photogrammetry, Data Migration, Aerial and Satellite Mapping, Digital Surface Model/Digital Terrain Model (DSM/DTM), orthophoto generation, contouring and GIS database creation. His expertise includes working on disaster management projects of National Remote Sensing Centre with the help of LiDAR technology.

Subhabrata holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Techno Institute, Kolkata and Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from the Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management (EIILM), Sikkim.

Siddhartha Ghosh

Senior Manager

Siddhartha has over 15 years of experience in IT and GIS. He is a technically accomplished IT professional.

He has rich experience in project planning, cost estimation, documentation, implementation, client interaction, system study, tender preparation for various IT and GIS projects in government and private sector. He has developed USRTP Application and RPO Compliance Web Tool for the State of Andhra Pradesh. He was actively involved in the application development and testing of RACE for NEWEN, Italy and analysed and monitored the energy data from different locations.

Siddhartha holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in IT, both from Sikkim Manipal University.
